(PS: following is the detail
instruction for PD1000, but the only different is on BIOS setting. Please do the
BIOS setting as above
and do the Win98 setting as following instruction)
IrDA: Fast Infared or FIR, is a fast, easy to
use method for transfering data betweening to computers or for using peripheral devices
that are also controlled via IrDA such as printers. It can transfer data at up to 4Mbps.
There are a few steps necessary to take to make the Pen Computer
IrDA ready. The Pen Computer does not come with the IrDA turned on by factory default.
This is because it uses system resources and many users do not use this feature yet. It is
best to leave off to save resources.
The IrDA port uses COM2. To turn the IrDA on, you must change the
COM port 2 setting in the system BIOS when the system boots. You will need to change the
setting from "Modem" to "FIR", then save the setting and reboot.
After the port is changed,
Windows will recognize the new configuration and configure the proper drivers. Once
configured, You should see the red IrDA Icon in the Windows system tray. (Near the time on
the bottom right corner of the display) Double click on this and it will bring up the IrDA
configuration menu.
|

|
| Once you configure and turn
on the IrDA, it will search every 3 seconds for an IrDA device that is in range and can
communicate to. When setting up communication, try to place the IrDA port as close as
possible to the port on the device you want to communicate with. When it finds a device it
can communicate with you will see the icon turn to green and start to make a unique sound.
The device that it can communicate to will be be displayed in a new window. To use the IrDA to communciate with a peripheral or another computer,
follow the short tutorial below:
- 1.Make sure that the IrDA is on. Click on the options tab to see
the configuration.
- 2.Check to be sure that the correct protocol is set for the
communication. This will depend on the device you are communicating with. For example if
you wish to transfer data between two PD-1100 devices, you must set the transfer protocol
to be "Temic TFDS 6000" on both devices.
- 3.To check the protocol, go to the Windows Control Panel and click
on Networks. The screen below will be displayed. (Some of the drivers may not be listed
exactly as shown). Double click on the IrDA v3.0 Fast Infared Port, then click the
Advanced Tab.
|

|
- 4.Once the protocol is set correctly you can begin transferring
files. Select the files that you want to transfer in the Windows Explorer, then right
click on the files and click on the "Send to IrDA reciepient"; Click OK and the
files will be transferred.
|

|
| Files that are transferred will be
copied to a special "My Received" folder. A Windows information prompt will
inform you that all the files have been transferred. |
