| Q: |
Why does it take a few seconds for
any video to be displayed when booting? |
| A: |
- This is due to the video controller is built into the CPU. Before any video can be
displayed, including BIOS information, the processor must first do a quick internal chip
test.
|
| Q: |
How can I turn off the power
whenever PD-1000 hangs? |
| A: |
- Press the power button for about 4-5 seconds to shut down the computer. When the
computer is powered off, the Cyrix CPU must perform certain tasks before complete shut
down that is why there is a delay. Please be patient.
If you still encounter problems,
press the reset button on the back on the Mininotebook and it will reboot or remove the
battery and AC power cord, then re-install the battery.
Upon normal shutdown of Windows, the PD-1000 will power off automatically.
Also note that the PD-1000 will automatically power on when either a battery is
attached, the AC power cable is attached or once it is placed in the Port Module or
Docking Station. It is therefore recommended that you connect any devices to the Port
Module (floppy, modem, cd, etc.) before you couple them together. Peripherals will not
operate if they are attached after the power on.
We strongly recommend never to plug the PD-1000 into the docking station when the
system is turned on.

however play LCD, mpeg videos, Quicktime videos , AVI files and most other types of video.
|
| Q: |
Why does the PD-1000 system only
recongize 30MB of ram instead of 32MB? |
| A: |
- 1.5 MB of Memory is used for Video memory. (this can be upgrade to 2.25MB in the CMOS).
The CyrixGX cpu is a special processor that controls not only the processing functions b
the video as well.

| Q: |
My Power Management does not seem
to work, every 30 minutes the system turns back on. Why? |
| A: |
- This may be due to the USB port. If you have enabled it in the BIOS, every 30 minutes it
will do a automatic system check and turn the system back on. Disable the USB port if you
wish to use this feature.

What is special about the Cyrix
MediaGX?Processor? |
| A: |
- The MediaGX processor is a new generation of Windows?-compatible processors that are
changing the way PCs are built -- and shrinking costs in the process. It integrates the
sound, graphics and memory control by putting these functions within the processor.
The
MediaGX processor integrates the PCI interface, coupled with audio, graphics and memory
control functions, right into the processor unit. To pull the sound and graphics hardware
onto the MediaGX processor, Cyrix enhanced the x86 architecture by creating four exclusive
Cyrix processor features: XpressRAM?, XpressGraphics?, XpressAUDIO? and Virtual System
Architecture? (VSA). See the MediaGX Marketing Brief for further details.
There are several levels at which the MediaGX processor replaces components in a PC.
First, it is obvious from our discussion here that the MediaGX replaces costly graphics
and sound cards. Secondly, on the motherboard level, the MediaGX and its companion chip,
the Cx5530, replaces the processor, north and south bridge chips, the memory control
hardware and L2 cache. Finally, the simplified PC design of the MediaGX along with its low
power and low heat characteristics allow the OEM PC manufacturer to design a system in a
smaller form factor with a reduced power supply requirement.
The MediaGX is totally transparent to all software applications, thereby assuring
compatibility. A user can expect a MediaGX system to provide equivalent performance as a
Pentium? system at the same MHz.

| Q: |
What is special about EDO RAM? |
| A: |
- Extended Data Out RAM recognizes that most of the time when a CPU requests memory for a
particular address, it is going to want some more addresses of memory nearby. By remember
the last address it speeds up the memory cycle with improvement is performance of as much
as 40%.

Why does Microsoft report problems
with PCI to IRQ steering in the device manager? |
| A: |
- This is caused by Windows 98 inability to recognize our driver. There is not problem at
all with the system or functionally. If you wish to correct this, follow the steps below:
(note the exact spacing)
|
- Find the file "Machine.inf" located in the Windows\INF directory.
- Make a backup copy of this file.
- Use a text editor such as Notepad and find the section called: [GENDEV_SYS]
- Edit the following line with a remark ( ; and a space)
; %*PNP0C0F.DeviceDesc% =IRQHOLDER_DRV,*PNP0C0F ; ACPI IRQ Holder %PCI/IRQHolder.DeviceDesc%=IRQHOLDER_DRV,PCI\IRQHolder
- Next edit [IRQHOLDER_DRV] with these lines:
AddReg=IRQHOLDER_ADddReg
; DelReg=IRQHOLDER_DelReg
- Next edit [IRQHOLDER_AddReg]
; HKR,,DevLoader,,PCI.VxD ; HKR,,PCIDevice,1,01,00,00,00
